Today I am
going to write about one of my favorites movies, it name is “Whiplash”, this
movie was written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the main characters and its respective
actors are:
-Miles
Teller as Andrew Neiman, a young jazz drummer at Shaffer.
-J.K.
Simmons as Terence Fletcher, an exigent jazz instructor at Shaffer.
-Paul
Reiser as Jim Neiman, Andrew’s father.
-Melissa
Benoist as Nicole, who becomes Andrew’s girlfriend.
Andrew is a
drum player at Shaffer Conservatory in New York City, he plays the drum since his
childhood, he lives with his father (his mother abandoned them). The story is
based in the relationship between Andrew and Terence Fletcher (a famed jazz
conductor at Shaffer), this instructor generates an immense pressure on his
students insulting and hitting them, even throwing things at them (like
chairs), he is the most ruthless instructor. Throughout story we see how Andrew
is changing his personality, he become a person more serious thanks to the
exigences of Fletcher; we can see the way in how affect the relation with his
girlfriend and father. In a moment of the story we see how the cruelty of Terence
causes Andrew to leave the music, but after a big process of meditation he
comes back to play the drum because he needs it. One more time Fletcher causes
that Andrew wants to leave the music, but this time he thinks of all his perseverance,
and all his time of dedication and decides to come back to the scenery ignoring
all the authority of Fletcher and the magic happens…
In my
opinion "Whiplash" is an amazing movie -and one of my favorites-, because it shows the
reality of the effort of the musicians that wants to be the best, and the life
of Andrew Neiman is so hard because nobody sees the music like he sees it –in certain way I feel identified with his
musician career-, and all his perseverance for being the best. Also, I like it
because I love the soundtrack of the movie that is full of jazz.
